Best beloveds!
I’m back. Did you miss me? (No, wait, don’t answer that…)
It’s a little hard to believe that it’s only been three weeks since the nightmare began in Delhi. It feels like social media and message groups have been filled with desperate pleas for beds, oxygen, drugs, ambulances for a few months now. It’s also a little hard to believe that the governments have not bothered to get their shit together either.
However! Since it is a rather lovely day for May, what with the rain (and we shall not consider how fucked up the climate is…), and I’d like to keep my blood pressure normal as long as I can, let me hustle along and make our big announcement!
We are oh so excited to launch workshops! Over the past year and a half we’ve had so many people reach out to us, asking us how we deal with and that and the other. Our reels about doctors have upset a lot of people (evil grin) but also seen a lot of people want to know what to do. It’s true that health is important, but that’s exactly the point we’re making—when internalised fatphobia prevents doctors from treating fat people’s symptoms, how is it healthy? But, I digress.
About those workshops. “Dealing with the World” was born realising, as we did season 2, that dealing with the world as a fat person is an important skill. We’ve has our time and therapy and figured out some things, which we would like to share with you. We also think it’s really helpful to find community, and come together as a group to figure out what we can do to make it even easier. And, of course, also be there to support and hold space for each other, to build the community we all need when fat phobia gets us down.
The workshops will be 2 hours each and typically happen on the last Saturday of every month from 5 to 7pm. We will run these from the perspective of a fat person’s experience, and you can expect to leave with tools you can use and a community you can lean on. The series has 6 workshops:
⁃ Dealing with mental health
⁃ Dealing with concern trolling
⁃ Dealing with spaces
⁃ Dealing with family
⁃ Dealing with healthcare
⁃ Dealing with relationships
The first workshop, “Dealing with mental health,” will be on the 29th of May. If you’d like to sign up, or find out more, just hit reply right now! We have special rates if you are struggling with money, and if you sign up for multiple workshops.
Really, I can’t tell you how thrilled we are to be trying to actively help other people deal with this shit. We started the podcast because we hoped we could put an alternative voice out there for people to hear non-fatphobic things. We never dreamed we’d have the chance to do something like this. So thank you all for your love and support!
And before I rush off to physiotherapy, let me point you to my excellent blog post on Saturday, introducing the kittehs. There were also a couple of great stories on Instagram but you’d have had to follow to see them. The last episode of Season 2 dropped the previous Sunday, and it was, aptly, about community. Reels this week were Pallavi’s tearjerker summary of our journey to finding each other and finding community, and me pointing out some things that you gain from rejecting diet culture. I found this rather interesting article on fat storage, from splainer, India’s best news source.
Stay tuned for more adventures! We do have that 12-point list of between season activities…
Stay kind, and stay safe.
love,
Ameya (& Pallavi)
Big news!
How do I sign up?? <3
