Hello lovely people,
I have struggled to write this newsletter in the last few weeks. As I finally confessed to Ameya last week — I haven’t had too many thoughts around being a fat woman of late. And as Ameya reminded me, this isn’t just about being fat, it’s actually about being a person. When I thought about it later it hit home, perhaps this is what fat liberation looks like. Where it’s all normal…
Like the tattoo I got. The tattoo artist went through a process figuring where to place my tattoo. What she then said to me was, “I know this doesn’t look centred on your shoulder. I’ve followed the line of your arm, so whether you lose or gain weight, this will always be the centre of your arm as a whole. And I feel this would look better than if I only centred it basis your shoulder, what do you think?”
I fell in love with her, immediately. She made me feel like a person. She looked at me as I am — a fat woman — who may lose or gain weight. And she made a decision based on her expertise about what would make me, her client, happy. Being fat was just part of the person I am — no drama, no skirting around it, no sweat.
How about the rest of the world treating us like that. How about us treating ourselves like that? I’ve been studying something called “Human Design” and apparently part of my profile involves being idealistic. While it’s one of the things that has led to much disappointment, it’s also what makes me reach for more. And this is me, reaching for more. I’ve decided I need to ask, “How would you do this on a thin body?” Or “If my being fat were not a consideration, would you do this differently?”
In case you try it out before me, let us know how it goes. And of course I shall be back here or on our social media pages sharing stuff when it happens to me. Are you on social media with us ;) - Instagram, Facebook or Twitter … hehehe…
Ooh and not to forget have you been listening to the awesomeness that is Season 3? Our latest episode with Srujan Penta (@panda_of_all_trades) had me raving about how good the conversation was. Even though I did get fixated on something he said, so fixated that I asked him the same question in 15 different ways … ok maybe that’s an exaggeration … but yeah, many-many different ways… heee…
Episode 4 will release this Saturday, another great conversation with Joh, the creative genius that runs @plumpf.oomph! Tattoo pictures will be up shortly on our Instagram feed. In the meanwhile, here’s a dance reel I am very proud of and Ameya just did a make up reel that’s got me drooling!
Love and hugs,
Pallavi (& Ameya)
