Best beloveds!
I know, I know, it’s not Wednesday. In my defence, I did get the second jab, which ended up giving me side effects, so I spent Tuesday and Wednesday horizontal, and then Thursday scrambling to catch up on work. So you’re getting this week’s edition late.
I’m back in Delhi after that quick visit to my parents (isn’t it funny how Covid has completely warped time? In 2019, a 1-week visit would have been along one, and now a 2-week visit is short), where I joyfully descended to intern level. What do I mean?
Well, I have this theory that running a life, a household, involves a lot of managerial work: mental track of inventory, forecasting and planning for what’s expected, trying to prepare for the unexpected, taking decisions every everloving minute of the day… It has given me serious decision fatigue. I've reached a point where it takes me 40 minutes to order food online because I am paralysed by the decision making process. I just can’t choose anything.
So, when I went to stay with the parents, I told Amma that I was her intern. No asking me what I want to eat or do—just tell me. “Make pizza!” “Lunch is cabbage; eat it!” I gotta say it was such a delightful two weeks.
Now I have returned to the manager’s world.
I gotta say the adult world is feeling pretty awful right now, what with what’s happening in Afghanistan, but also Lebanon, Haiti, the wildfires everywhere… On the bright side, Ever Given made it through the Suez Canal without mishap!
So! What have we been doing? Well Pallavi is enjoying her vacation, in shorts, but she did make this fab carousel about getting to a better relationship with food, while I happily made a reel about some of the messed up ways we look at the world. Pallavi also posted a gorgeous photo of herself in this lovely outfit I am totally jealous of. And of course, I made a reel for y’all today!
Now for those links I promised you. I keep saving up great reads on fatness and fat phobia, and forgetting to share them, so here you go, one huge dump!
Scientists have found evidence that your genes affect your ability to lose weight
CNN Health has a piece about how fat shaming is international and bad for you
This sweet little piece that encourages you to break free of diet culture and shares some resources
Another one from CNN Health that calls out calorie deprivation and over exercising
And a very beautiful comic about a man coming to love his body
Annnd that’s all folks! Have a lovely weekend and week :)
love,
Ameya (& Pallavi)
