Best beloveds!

There are many things I could write about this week, but, having just finished an EXCELLENT breakfast of puttu and pazham, I cannot help but discuss food.

You might remember that I’ve been struggling with my body and my health lately. Some of my test results have been alarming, because apparently I have extremely high levels of inflammation. And, while I don’t like to categorize “good” and “bad” food and eating, for a long time my body has been grumbling about the food I’ve been putting in. And yet, all of this only became clear after my move.

(A tangent: nothing makes me believe in woowoo things more than Pallavi’s and my experience living in that house in GK2. We were so happy to be sharing the house; we were excellently located for our lives and our friends; things were going well on so many fronts. But on some fundamental level that house just did not work. It has the WORST juju, and neither of us realised it till we left.)

Anyway, so here I am, over 6 weeks into life in Bangalore and people tell me my neighbourhood has great delivery food. Which is when I realise that, since I got the gas connection, I have barely ordered anything in to eat. I’m cooking; my cook is cooking; and though the food has oil, and cheese, and potatoes and other thus “bad” things, it’s all delicious and happymaking. And, it’s really helped me embrace a more thoughtful and mindful approach to eating, with a nutritionist who, while not terrible like the usual ones, is supportive, even if she doesn’t give me too much actionable advice.

I gotta say at least some of the food joy is from being back in the south, where morkuzhambu, puttu, and millet dosais are a matter of course :D

Right, before Substack scolds me about email length again, let me just say that we’re so happy to hear from all of you after we put out episode 1! We’re working hard on episode 2, which features the FABULOUS Tanvi Geetha Ravishankar, aka thechubbytwirler. Needless to say, we were super excited to talk to her, and it was so nice to connect with someone from INDIA who has been doing such fabulous work! Prepare for the drop THIS SATURDAY AT 5!
